Off Season Wrestling Castleton Spartan Wrestling Training Academy
Off season wrestling is a great way to up your game but more importantly, it’s a way to keep up with serious wrestlers that want to bring their game to the next level!
There are plenty of athletes that aspire to make it to the next level, but in wrestling, as in any other sport, there comes a time when an athlete needs to decide if they really want it or not. And…..if they do…..then it’s time for off season training. Being a multi-sport athlete is good at the high school level for a lot of reasons. Factors like burnout come into play quickly if an athlete specializes too soon. However, getting off season training is a way to supplement your wrestling skills without sacrificing other sports.
Coach Scott Legacy has implemented the Castleton Spartan Wrestling Training Academy to give Vermont Wrestlers the opportunity to have access to quality training right in their own back yard. The camp is staffed by Coaches Legacy, Duca, Forrest and Whitesell from Castleton University and Coach Scott Shaddock from Fairhaven, however most of the technique is being taught by the Castleton University wrestlers. They are breaking up with the age groups and teaching techniques that work for them.
I asked Coach Legacy about the emphasis of the camp.
“We work on all phases of wrestling. Neutral, Top and bottom. Positioning and appropriate drilling. Also some freestyle and Greco.”
