Vermont Wrestling By The Numbers

This may come as old news to some of you, but Vermont Wrestler learned in late June that Todd Swisher, of Cavendish, VT would be stepping down as Coach of Rockingham Area Wrestling, (RAW) the Youth Wrestling program based in Bellows Falls, Vermont.   Dwindling numbers this past 2016-2017 forced the dissolution of the formal program at Bellows Falls Union High School for the year.   High School Wrestler’s once part of the Bellows Falls Hartford Co-op wrestling team, and Bellows Falls Union High School Wrestling Team trained and competed as independent wrestlers.

Coach Swisher took on the High School Coaching position, passed from veteran Coach Claude Weyant  following  a stellar season and Second place finish at the Vermont State High School Wrestling Tournament in March 2014, right on the heels of Mount Anthony Union High School.

In an email Swisher expressed his high esteem for wrestling, in addition to a strong commitment to his growing family. As with most sports-minded families, there are often evolving interests as kids grow older.  These interests have turned to Basketball, and to that end, Swisher has decided to focus in this direction, coaching his boys’ team.

During the 2016-2017 the Keene Gladiators Youth Wrestling https://www.facebook.com/Keene-Gladiators-Youth-Wrestling-202270423122710/  practiced with the Rockingham Area Wrestling youth program and  has expressed interest in continuing to practice at the Lawrence & Lober facility going forward, under the leadership of Wayne Adams and Steve Gruber.  The coaches from Keene will assume coaching duties for the RAW as well as the Gladiators.  The Junior High and High School Wrestlers will be joining the bustling Springfield Wrestling program  under Coaches Don Beebe, and Floyd Buck.

Vermont Wrestler wishes Coach Swisher and his family all the best in his future endeavors, be it Basketball, Wrestling, or something totally different.  And, who knows, winds of change sometimes come back around.     Thank you for your commitment and guidance. We are confident we will see you again in Wrestling in the future
